Lancaster B1 PA474 of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire. Lincolnshire was ‘bomber county’ during World War Two due to the sheer number of bomber airbases in the county.
PA474 is one of only two airworthy Lancasters left in the World. Built to Mark B1 standard in 1945 by Armstrong Vickers at their Brough works near Chester, this priceless aircraft is extensively serviced and maintained by the Royal Air Force as a flying tribute to the c55,500 Bomber Command aircrew killed on training and on operations during World War 2. The aircraft should hopefully remain airworthy until 2065.
