Formerly a German civilian airliner, A310-300 10+23 'Kurt Schumacher' visited RAF Waddington in September 2019 during Exercise Cobra Warrior. It is roled as an A310 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport) for dual air-to-air (AAR) refuelling and cargo transport. To fulfil its role as an AAR aircraft, the A310 is fitted with two AAR pods, one under each wing, four additional fuel tanks (boosting fuel capacity from c50,000 kg to c 78,000 kg).It also has a Fuel Operator Station (FOS) to control the refuelling process, and has various cameras to assist the MOS operator, including night vision video capability incorporating visible light and near-infrared radiation.
